Pancreatic Cancer Ribbon

A purple cancer ribbon represents Pancreatic Cancer.

Last year my husband, Simon, was Diagnosed with cancer in his pancreas.  He had major surgery and spent a long time in hospital.  The second half of the year Simon spent on chemotherapy.  For his last chemo session, I made this resin-art version of the purple cancer ribbon.

We presented the art piece to the staff in the cancer ward on Simon’s last day, hopeful that we wouldn’t need to return.

Simon’s first couple of check-ups this year were clear.  We thought he had made a full recovery, but his June check-up showed the cancer had returned, so after a few more tests, it was back onto chemotherapy from August.

Because of the Covid restrictions, I haven’t been able to go with Simon to chemo this time around.  Simon hasn’t seen my art piece on display, but whether it’s hanging somewhere, or in a storeroom, I’m still proud of my resin art cancer ribbon, and gratefull to the staff of the hospital cancer wards.

In the hallway at my front door

I've been playing around with resin for some time, and over the last couple of years I've accumulated a lot of creations.  It's now time to put them all on display. In my hallway, at the front door, is an old blue bookshelf, filled with lots of my work.  Beside that...

This will be a Lazy-Susan

I’ve done plenty of circular resin-pour pieces before.

This one is a little different though.  A friend asked me to make this with colours she chose, which is not that unusual, except she plans to turn this into a lazy-susan!

I’m looking forward to being invited over for dinner (after lockdown of course) and spinning this around in the centre of their dinning table.

Today’s Little Project

So what to do while in Covid-19 lockdown?

I have been working on a bigger project, but I’ve passed that onto a friend to do some work on, so this is the resin art piece I did in just a couple of hours this afternoon.

I’m experimenting with a new technique, where I cut strips from a plastic sandwich bag and use those to swipe the colours either side of a line of resin poured along the middle of the base board.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Lockdown Resin Art

So we’re stuck at home in Corona Virus lockdown version two.

With a fresh supply of resin colours, and not being allowed to go out, why not create some new art pieces?

I started out coating a square and a round MDF boards with white resin, poured on a few colours and then spread that around with a heat gun.

I think the finished products turned out pretty nice!  I even had enough left over resin to make a couple of drink coasters.

With five weeks of lockdown to go, I wonder what I’ll do next?

Pen and Pencil Holders

You’ve seen the pyramids and Little-Critters I make with resin moulds, now let me show you my pen holders.

When I say a pen holder, you know it doesn’t have to just hold pens.  Yes, you can put these on your desk to hold pens, pencils and that sort of office things.  If you think outside the square (or circle!), you could put one in the bathroom to hold toothbrushes or nail-files.  You could put a few in the workshop to hold screwdrivers, the uses are endless.

Just like the pyramids and critters, coloured resin is poured into a mould.  Once the resin is set, the mould is simply peeled off.

I’ve made lots of these pen and pencil holders, in various colours, in both round and square shapes.  Once we get our site store up and running in the coming weeks, you’ll see some of these for sale.
